Trekking in the Altai mountains
Wild lands of nomads and hunters, mountain trails and summiting Malchin Peak at 4050 meters. Our new route through the Altai Tavan Bogd National Park, lakes Khoton and Khurgan, meetings with Kazakh hunters and leisurely evenings. Dynamic landscapes, vibrant culture and simplicity that brings you back to yourself.
New format: Scapers Expedition
A real adventure as we walk the route for the first time and explore it together with our guests. Logistics, safety, and basic comfort are well thought out, and our local partners are responsible for them. As always, we are there for the community, providing information and caring guidance along the route.
Trek’s features
This adventure includes
Climbing Malchin peak
Malchin Peak - 4,050 m, accessible for hiking without technical equipment. The peak offers a panoramic view of glaciers, Mongolian and Kazakh mountains, and the state border. This is the highest point of the route that can be conquered within the trek.
Horseback riding
On one of the days of the trek, we will pass through a section of the route, riding horses along mountain trails to the base of the Potanin Glacier.
Potanin and Alexander glaciers
Potanin is the largest glacier in Mongolia, it stretches for about 14 km. Its icy, crevassed surface is striking in its scale and proximity — it can be reached on foot without difficult trekking. Nearby is the Alexander Glacier. Together, they form one of the most vibrant landscapes of the route.
Milky River
The White River originates from the Potanin glacier - when the ice melts, it washes away small mineral particles that give the water its characteristic milky white color. Along the river are alpine meadows, nomadic yurts, yak pastures, and ancient petroglyphs.
Overnight stay in a yurt
TextWe will experience the full flavor of nomadic life spending one night in a traditional yurt, and the remaining 7 nights in tents for 2-3 people in the middle of the wilderness. All amenities will be available in a camping format.
Nomads and golden eagles hunters
During the trek, we will meet Kazakh nomads who still live traditionally - in yurts, with herds, on distant summer pastures. It is especially impressive to meet golden eagle hunters, who pass on the art of hunting with an eagle from generation to generation.
Nomadic Scapers camp
Trekking routes in the mountains of the Mongolian Altai are not as developed as in the Himalayas. Here, the Scapers team will set up our own nomadic camp every night, with tents, a fire pit, and a field kitchen.
